Fisherfolks underwent SMU seminar

The MarinersAssociation for Regional and International Networking Organization (MARINO), in cooperation with the Labor Education and Research Network and the Alliance of Progressive Labor, gathered more than 15 lead fishermen in Navotas for a whole day seminar on Social Movement Unionism or SMU on September 24, 2011.The seminar contains modules on labor formations, modes of workers’ struggle and several strategies on trade unionism and social movement. The Navotas-based fishers are only part of the organizing base of MARINO as it continues to integrate workers in fishing communities who have been traditionally ignored by trade unions and organizations advocating for labor rights and issues.
